messages

A message I keep getting with Tarot is that I need to plan, visualize my goals.
Really, this is part of magic. Setting the goal, DEFINING the goal (which can prove quite difficult),
then using your resources to propel forward.

Many planets in Pisces now. Plus the moon is in Scorpio today and tomorrow.
Much of the Pisces planets are on my Jupiter. Spiritual expansion?
But Neptune's there... foggy.
Hmm.

The things I value most include my family and friends, of course.
Also, TRAVEL. Important to me. A goal. Ongoing. : )
And, Astrology (and Tarot). I really am inspired to beef up my knowledge. Make something more. Build my foundation more sturdily.

Both things seem limitless, and I think that is part of what draws me in. No upper limit. "The limit doesn't exist."

Another message I received from Tarot today was one of personal power. To be the one in charge of my emotional well-being. Not giving that power away to others.
I think this is something that a lot of sensitive types deal with, and I think, for me anyway, it has to do with my moon. My moon in Taurus, in the 8th house. I can get too invested in the feelings, emotions of others without even realizing it. This doesn't lead anywhere good.
I've gotten this message before but not as poignant as today. It's like the card (King of Cups, reversed) was shouting at me to reign that in, bring it back. To get a handle on it, which in turn can help me move further with my goals, visualizations...

What do you think? What does your moon say?

this is what it feels like in my head today!

navigating daily life

Boy have I felt scattered today so far, and the past week. I'm sure lots of you feel that way too, with all the different facets of life to keep up with... jobs, other work, school, kids, families, pets, friends, relationships, keeping up with your home, travel...

AND THEN the things we value but have to squeeze in between the things listed above... writing, blogging, art, music, meditating, exercise, FUN, other endeavors, spending time in nature, spending time in the city... what have you. Let's not forget the guilt that can come with neglecting the top list for things on this one...

It feels a little overwhelming at times, right? I've been trying to get a rhythm down... not a strict schedule, but a certain... flow, to my days. Well, I guess it IS a schedule of sorts, but it's super flexible. Even though day to day can vary a lot, there are certain core things that I need to make time for every day. I am feeling the learning curve of it all, but so far it has helped, somewhat, the scattered feeling, if I can think back to my general time map of what I should be doing... it feels like work, to an extent, but GOOD work, if that makes any sense?

Today I'm a little out of it. The moon is void of course, so the moon's a little out there today too. Void of course, or VOC moon means that it's not making any aspects with any of the other planets. To me it feels almost like a free fall of sorts, unattached  It's in Gemini which can feel this way anyway, unfocused because we're trying to focus on too many things... I feel like I'm vibing with the moon. I could have slept all day, I'll tell you that right now. :) I have a certain song I've been obsessed with (I get like that with songs), and have been listening to it over and over to help me focus somewhat. Necessary when blogging or doing readings. Otherwise I get distracted by every little thing.

Second day of my meditation class. It's a challenge, for sure, for me, to meditate every day. Yesterday I did two five minute stretches. Did one ten minute session today. I started to have the thought yesterday that there's no way I will be able to do this every day... I'm too busy... but that's kind of the point... to work these things, that are important to you and beneficial and really help you to be on the path you want to be on, into your life... slowly, slowly, so it sticks...

new moon in capricorn time!

The moon moves into Capricorn in the wee hours of the night, at 3:54 am eastern time. The new moon will be exact at 2:44 pm est on Friday!

There's lots of other Capricorn action in the sky right now, as well- Mercury and Capricorn and Pluto, oh my! And the sun too!

Do you have planets in Capricorn? If so, there's a good chance they are being transited by the planets in Capricorn right now. If you peek at your chart and see the house(s) where Capricorn lies (even if you don't have any planets there), it will give you clues as to the areas of your life being affected right now.

Let's say you have a Capricorn moon. All the planetary movement in Capricorn, then, is raising topics surrounding your needs and security. What do you need to feel secure, and do you feel as though it is attainable? How are you striving for this security- from outside sources, or from within yourself ? Either way, creating a strong foundation is paramount.

Taking it one step further- say your Capricorn moon is in the third house. This house is very mentally based, and has to do with things pertaining to communication (verbal and written), light daily travel, and relationships with brothers and sisters. How are you feeling about these topics? Perhaps relationships with siblings are feeling tested, or you're trying to communicate more openly with your loved ones but you're running into speed bumps. The new moon here is going to bring a focus to these topics, and if you are receptive to a solution- rather than just focusing on the problem itself- you may have a revelation, OR at least realize that you want to move forward with these things.

If you're a Capricorn sun, you may feel as though your entire being is on a wild ride. And I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way! You are growing. Up or down? Shying away or trying to embrace it?

I've talked about different meanings of the houses here. Take a minute, put your info into Astro and see what number your Capricorn house is. We ALL have a Capricorn house, so even if you don't have any planets there you still have an area of life (house) being affected. Then you can refer to this handy cheat sheet to see the area of your life being brought into focus- remember, this is where the sun and moon will be, as they are conjunct during a new moon. Illumination inside and out!

Traditional zodiac with house and sign affiliations. In which houses do you have planets?

sag moon redux

Re: my most recent blog post, I received some feedback in which my friend A hilariously noted that I had gotten "a little ADD" and strayed from the topic of actual moon in Sagittarius. Which was the entire original point! It made me giggle since it's SO true (I heart feedback, btw), and instead of making edits after the fact, I decided to just clean it up with another short little blog post. :)

Anyway- moon in Sag! Aspects aside, this is generally regarded as a happy, sociable time. Could be a little freewheeling (look out for rash decision-making). A good time for self-reflection/evaluation, and spiritual/philosophical endeavors. (Side note: I purchased my first ever deck of Tarot cards today, during the Sag moon. Not planned that way- just, the shop I got them at was closed yesterday. :) ).

So that's sort of the general mood of Sag moon. There are more layers. For one, the aspects (interactions) the moon makes with other planetary bodies. Today, the moon made many different aspects- the moon is/was busy! So this takes the general energy of the moon and bends it a bit.

For example, an opposition to Jupiter in Gemini happened earlier today. Sensitive types may still be picking up on this theme- reconciling our needs (the moon) with that which we want to expand (jupiter). Where these two transiting planets fall in your chart will give you more clues. For example, if you had the transiting moon in the fourth house, and Jupiter in the tenth, you may be feeling a bit of a tug of war between your basic, family, home-based needs (fourth house- are you feeling as though you're in a shell?) and the desire to expand your career (tenth house). How can you meet in the middle? That's what oppositions encourage... And I just inadvertently talked about the second layer- where the planets fall specifically in your chart. That's where astrology gets personal, and becomes a helpful psychological tool. And that is why I'm obsessed with Astrology. Psychology undergrad turned Astrologer-in-training. :)

The moon is in Sagittarius until early morning Thursday. Embrace this monthly retreat to those Sag endeavors!
Expanding on your needs... one theme from today. :)

hello sagittarius moon

Last night and a little while this morning has been devoted to reading on Sky Writer. Donna Cunningham is unstoppable! Her Q&A articles in particular are just a wealth of astrological information. I think I'll just read one article and end up reading like nine!

Today the moon is in Sagittarius. Moon in Sag feels like a breath of fresh air for me- out of the intensity of Moon in Scorpio (which isn't inherently bad or anything, but I do have limits to how deep I can go before I feel overloaded!), and a break before the different kind of intensity that moon in Capricorn brings these days, as Capricorn moon conjuncts transiting Pluto. Not that that placement has to be labeled bad or anything either, to me it just feels heavy and like... staying in. Gathering energy. The new moon this month will be in Capricorn, in Friday.

The moon moves quickly. New sign every ~2.5 days. Moods and themes can change quickly. My advice is to roll with it rather than trying to resist. If you feel particularly... antisocial, or internally based, honor that within yourself, even if external circumstances are a bit... squeezing. This can be something as small as treating yourself to a hot tea or coffee in the midst of a busy day at work when you're just not feeling it at all.

Venus also will be joining the sun, pluto (and soon the moon) in Capricorn, late tonight eastern time. 11:11, to be exact. :) Love is going down deep, not necessarily cuddly, but then the specifics depend on your OWN personal chart- where is your Capricorn house? I also think this will have the potential to be revealing in your relationships. What will you uncover?

I'm getting ahead of myself- one transit at a time. Hi, Sagittarius moon! How do you notice the current moon?

Sagittarius region of the galaxy.

off the top of my head

I think that I'm moving to WordPress. And/or working on improving this site. If things get a little weird around here in the next few days to a week, that's probably why. It looks like the process should be pretty painless, thankfully. Just wanted to give a heads up. :)

So we're onto longer days, every day. It's a nice thought. I'm feeling zonked from the holidays but I think I will fix myself a hot cuppa and make a list and get some stuff done, life-wise and around the house. At the moment, though, I am loving my work space. Here's the view:

It's from last week. :)

Originally I tweeted it. Are you on twitter? Find me here! Other places I'm around online are to the right.

How are you feeling today? The moon and Jupiter in Gemini (although no longer conjunct) is motivating- for sure- but the side effect is feeling overwhelmed! A rushed, how will I do all this? feeling. But a lot can be found out, as well- this is a GREAT time to set goals for the year ahead, or just a general idea of what you'd like to happen (if you're into that kind of thing). If you do a vision board, now is a great time to work on it.

Felt compelled to draw a card (which turned into three).

From the oracle deck The Wisdom of Avalon by Colette Baron-Reid.

the frog- cleaning house & releasing emotional baggage. get rid of clutter in your environment, head, and heart. it's time to get rid of anything that clutters your life or your space with unwanted, burdensome energy, or that weighs down heavily on your heart.

cleaning up allows for new and fresh energy to enter your world. it allows for positive and supportive energy. the frog says to release all things no longer appropriate to bring on your journey.

the fire faery- creative action & optimism. she sparks ideas into action and encourages you to move quickly. she's also the voice of happy optimism,, showing you signs, signals, and omens to support your dreams. she brings energy to support ideas that serve the greater good. she also brings illumination. if you're in the dark about something, a light.

burden- this card asks what burdens your are carrying on this part of your journey. are they so heavy that they slow you down? stop and look at your responsibilities & commitments.

release others to their own path. it's time to leave behind any unnecessary burdens, and know you have the strength to carry what is yours.

Interesting combo! I'm definitely feeling the need to write and expand my blog and work...

Do these cards make sense to you, too?
Happy Holidays. :)

chart rulers and such

Some texting with a friend a few days ago (she was noting all the venus action in her chart- sun and moon) led to the topic of chart rulers. It's pretty easy to figure out- it's the planetary ruler of your ascendant. my friend's ascendant is cancer, so her chart ruler is the moon.

Brief rundown of the others signs and their rulers:
Aries-Mars
Taurus-Venus
Gemini-Mercury
Cancer-Moon
Leo-Sun
Virgo-Mercury
Libra-Venus
Scorpio-Pluto and Mars
Sagittarius-Jupiter
Capricorn-Saturn
Aquarius-Uranus and Saturn
Pisces-Neptune and Jupiter.

This adds another dimension to your chart, to see a driving force behind your whole chart. Someone with a Pisces rising, Neptune ruled chart is going to be led by a vision, which may or may not be rooted in reality, but will inspire them for good or ill. Jupiter flavor can come in as well, perhaps making this vision seem larger than life, which can be intimidating or inspiring, depending. Someone with a Mercury ruled chart is going to be ruled by busyness- thinking, overthinking, doing, overdoing- but will they allow themselves to move forward?

Uranus rising has a deep need for personal expression in this life. It goes down deep and if they feel blocked or oppressed an especially wild side may come out. Mars is energy, striving, a FORCE to be reckoned with. Pluto takes this Mars energy but hides it down deep for safekeeping. Saturn is steady, methodical, but need a release so the pressure won't burst them, they almost need to give themselves permission to have fun (they deserve it!). Jupiter wants to expand, travel, and generally open up to the world and potential experiences. The sun rising is bright and their presence will ALWAYS be felt. And Venus... Venus expects harmony and beauty but at what cost? They may need to figure out less obvious ways to reach their objectives...

Back to my friend, and fellow moon ruled charts: The moon is characterized by an ebbing and flowing, feelings running DEEP and emotions coming on strong and leaving just as quickly. The moon ruled chart then makes me want to see where the MOON in her chart falls, since we know that the moon has a strong influence. Her moon is in Venusian Libra, in the fourth- which is the moon's natural house. a-ha! More evidence of a very lunar lady. :) However, Libra is a very mental sign, rational thought always at least tries to break through, no matter what the rest of the chart looks like. So, she has a bit of a balance (another thing Libra rules), balancing act, between the emotional and the mental aspects of her personality. I think of stillness, anything that allows for serenity, no matter how fleeting, is going to be very beneficial for someone with these placements, as it will allow for their overworked mental and emotional faculties to rest for a few moments, which can allow for fresh air to roll in... New insights. :)

(For more information, could google "___ chart ruler meaning." An Alan Oken site may come up first, as it did with mine, and he goes into much more detail than i will about chart rulers- great read. (As an aside- his books are fascinating).

As he points out, some signs have more than one ruler. Scorpio has Mars and Pluto, Aquarius has Saturn and Uranus, and Pisces has both Jupiter and Neptune. Some signs have multiple rulers because the planets simply hadn't been discovered yet! Can you see how this may be true for the Scorpios, Aquarians, and Pisces you know? How Scorpio has the drive of Mars, Aquarius fights the restriction of Saturn, Pisces has the same need for expansion as Jupiter.)

Anyway, I digress. What planet rules your chart, and how do you see it? I want to follow up this post sometime in the future by talking about planets that fall in the first house, and how that can affect things... but, first things first. :)

uranus/moon insanity

omg, mercury retrograde. facebook hates me. also my phone kinda. and this dang rehashing of... shit. sighs.

that's one thing on my mind. the other thing is uranus. more specifically, uranus in the birth chart. even more specifically, aspects that uranus may make to the moon. it's such a... clashing. such a clashing of energies. two very different things being sort of forced into this relationship. i feel like even the "good" aspects like a trine in this case is still... erratic. vacillating. deep and aloof at the same time. longing for closeness but actively ignoring, pushing away.

and then you have my moon/uranus aspect: inconjunct. the exception, i think, to the clashing, but it presents its own set of problems. they CAN'T be smooshed together. it's just two totally different parts of me, my blind spots of sorts. my moon is up in the 8th house, so it goes down deep but there are always concerns. a fascination with death, and not in a suicidal way or anything (at least not currently), just... that. fascination. it's also where my fear lives, and my deep, deep attachments to others. does that sound scary? it feels scary sometimes. but it's just how i've always been. sometimes i think of the eighth house as just a dark room. pitch black. well, maybe a little bit of light shining in from an unknown source. or a nightlight.

come to think of it, the moon would have been just the slightest crescent in the sky, as i was born right after a new moon. black except for a sliver of light.

then, uranus, which my moon can't see. uranus which is also conjunct my mars. i'm sudden and erratic sometimes and slightly prone to emotional outbursts, and my blood boils. and i say mean things. it's destructive. uranus can be destructive. and mars is just the warrior. it's gone as soon as it comes on. they are never unprovoked, though... and that's where i see the inconjunct. it's something i can't connect, or struggle to, rather. that part of me with my dark moon. getting a glimpse of something there, usually to do with a significant other, that they're not telling me. i always pick the emotionally unavailable types... which is why i was thinking of uranus and the moon in the first place. in relationships, and how it adds a dimension of just not knowing. thinking you do, but then you pull back or the other pulls back and it's just... unsettling.

i know that i have a degree of this as well. most likely why i attract it.

so far the steps i see to overcoming it (and these are very preliminary): speaking. or writing. or just thinking. quiet. not expecting mind reading on either side, aka not assuming. for me, specifically: not exploding. waiting to speak. writing before speaking, to clear out all the shit from my veins. in other words... outlets.

how's your uranus/moon treating you? or... how are you treating it?

moon in capricorn

More thinking and planning on the blog-front this week than actual doing. I'm not sure actually where to week went, all I know is that it FLEW. And now it's Sunday again! woah.

Currently the moon is in Capricorn and it's wrecking me. I'm cranky. Yesterday was worse though, as I woke up with it. You see, Pluto is currently in the sign of Capricorn. This is deep, collective, sub/unconscious business. As Pluto always is. But in Capricorn, it's making us work for what we want. What we need. And umm, have you noticed the state of the world lately? Pluto in Capricorn is exposing the bullshit, little by little. Global awareness is growing. Little by little. The internet is helping a lot. But, perhaps causing more confusion as well?

We're not even halfway through with this transit yet! Pluto is going to be here for a LONG time.

Anyway, my point was that when the moon joins Pluto in this sign (the moon moves fast; in and out of a sign in 2.5 days), it adds to this energy, and it is strong. My head hurts too! But being able to look at this aspect, and then remember that it is fleeting, it makes me feel better. It will pass. So if you're feeling funky this weekend, it's okay. Take your space and don't apologize for it; actually, others should be happy to give it to you. haha. If you're not feeling it at all, lucky you. :) And I'm sorry to bring you down with my attitude! lol.

People with a lot of Capricorn in their charts may be feeling this more steadily now, as Pluto is there. It doesn't have to be all gloom and doom. But it may be heavier when the moon, or other transiting planets, move in too... Sometimes all you can do is what you need to do to have your needs met. And those needs may be changing.

The moon will move on into Aquarius later today. It can be really handy to note the way you feel every day, even if it's just a word or two, and see the corresponding moon. It's the simplest way I know of to understand your moods, yourself, better.

A cheerier post will follow!

From the archives: Moon sign basics

Back in 2010 (umm, wow, time is flying), I wrote a little blurb about moon signs. I've been trying to get back to basics lately, so I'm reposting this (and I'm not really editing it much either, heh).

Your moon sign is determined by, you guessed it, the sign the moon was in at your time of birth. The moon changes signs about every 2.5 days- 28 1/4 days make up the lunar calendar. This is obviously a lot faster than sun signs, which change signs once every 30 days. But what does this mean? Your moon sign represents your emotional side, your inner nature- the part of yourself that is private, your driving force. Whereas your sun sign helps paint the picture of what you look like to others, your moon sign is usually a lot trickier to simply guess. Basically, your moon sign, like the tides it also influences, has a lot of pull over how you express yourself as a whole.

The rapidly changing moon is one reason why someone with the same Sun sign as you may seem completely different from you.

Find out your moon sign on either astro or alabe. If you experience any difficulties at all with this,  just let me know and I will be happy to help. You can leave a comment or facebook/email me or whatever (see contact buttons up at the top!)

Onto the signs!

Aries. An Aries moon denotes a strong, driving force behind your personality and actions. This could occur in a multitude of ways- maybe you know exactly what you want out of a given situation (or life in general), perhaps you have the motivation to physically and mentally get the places you desire. Life may throw some tough challenges and lessons at you, but you're able to push through to the good parts. You're probably pretty affectionate with loved ones and are probably pretty honest and direct. You don't mess around!

Taurus. A Taurean moon bestows a kind of stability in a person- no matter how flighty they may seem otherwise, at their core they have a slowed down sort of calm. Even if their mind swirls with thoughts, they find themselves simply at the center of it all. They need to have some sense of security to feel comfortable in their own skin and confident. While they won't be tracking every penny like the Taurus sun sign, money will be something they worry about, because it seems to influence everything else, and is a piece of their perceived security- money is the means to attaining travel, a home, nice quality items, etc.- those with Taurus moon despise this fact but it can weigh heavily nonetheless. But on the bright side, this signs is affectionate with

Gemini moon! This adds a bit of trickiness to a person, no matter what their sign. An element that can come through as others not quite knowing what you're thinking or up to. What's really going on in that head? With a Gemini moon, it can be practically impossible for others to figure this out. You may think about your feelings more than actually experiencing them. Not to say that you're not emotional- that depends on the rest of your chart. What it means is that you intellectualize and rationalize things, not to speak of your busy mind in general. There's a sharpness to you, but it can also go the other way, leading to not always paying attention to others because you're so wrapped up in your own thoughts.

Cancer moon. Cancer is in it's home "planet" here, so a Cancer moon is very powerful. It's one of only a few moons that shows itself- something about you may seem "watery" even if your Sun sign is something like Aquarius or Leo, for example. You feel your way through life, and have a very strong intuition. Sometimes you may do things you know you shouldn't because it feels right in some way. Others may make references to you being a "mom" (or dad? do people say stuff like that to guys?) because you always show a concern for others which can sometimes border worry. You're super compassionate and wear your heart on your sleeve, or, of course, it can go the opposite way and you keep it all bottled up, which is crazy bad for you. If this is the case, find a constructive way to get everything you're feeling out.

Leo. In contrast to the Cancer moon, Leo is the sun being expressed through the moon. Say what? Leo is ruled by the Sun, and Leo is actually a favorable position for the moon to be in, as it represents the light of the moon (which, of course, comes from the sun)- you can always hang on to some semblance of the bright side, no matter how pessimistic (or you do you call it realistic?) you may be. Strong-willed and driven, your values are also very important to you, and help to guide your life. You can get obsessive about accomplishing goals (or whatever) because you get so focused. Try to remember to be here now and enjoy the present, you and the people who surround you will really appreciate it.

Virgo moon! Discriminating and calculating, methodical and detail-oriented. You thrive on some sort of routine, no matter how crazy your lifestyle may be. It could be something as small as having the same cocoa every morning, or you could have a much more elaborate repertoire. You are ambitious, and will work steadily toward your goals, which you are often able to clearly visualize. You can be rather solemn at times, partially because you're aware of the bad in the world and want to be able to change it. Remember that not everything is your responsibility, and allow yourself to lighten up and have fun. With all your hard work, you definitely deserve it.

Libra moon. Partnerships are very important to you. You feel at your best in a relationship, but be sure to have a good connection with yourself and do things that you like to do so that you don't completely lose yourself in someone else. Libran moon minds are pretty sharp and rational- you approach problem solving by some variance  of a "pros and cons" list. Balance is key for you to have a calm inner state, but by the same token, you can be thrown out of balance very easily. "All things in moderation" applies especially to lunar Librans, because overindulgance in any area results in a tipping of your scales. You have a knack for making your surroundings pleasing to your eyes, and have a cute way of styling yourself, as beauty in all its forms are very appealing to you.

Scorpio. This is an intense moon to have! And intense is not synonymous with "bad," don't worry. It just means that you feel every nuance that is possible to feel- a possible defense mechanism of this moon is an attempt to block out the bad feelings through repression or through heavy self medication. Try to limit this response and use your profoundness as a gift. You have the potential to be a very successful light worker of some sort, if you use your powers for good. Scorpio moons struggle between the light and dark sides of it, and may experience prolonged periods of time in the dark side before seeing and embracing the light. The moon imparts a fixed quality in you, and you do have a need for security. Unlike the Taurus moon though (Scorpio's polarity), this may be more of an emotional security rather than material.

Sagittarius. The moon placement imparts a truth-seeking, can't sit still for too long nature. These are the people who jump here and there throughout life (could be career-wise, living situation, or whatever- this will be specific to the individual person), looking to constantly improve upon what they already have. Not that they're necessarily critical, just eager to see their best possible life manifesting. These people can roll with the punches and bounce back quickly. They have sense of fun about them... A bit faery-like, almost. Sagittarius is the philosopher of the Zodiac, and having a Lunar Sag is no exception.

Capricorn. Like the Virgo moon placement, Capricorn is methodical in its own way. Those with Capricorn moons can be very expressive artistically, much more so than verbally. They can have a really hard time with words, and d  Pretty good with money, as having some in the bank makes you feel secure. You have a propensity to take life a bit seriously, and it's important for you to have solid human connections you can laugh with, as of course you must feel comfortable to let that side of you out. Having stability and a game plan are important to you, as it gives you a sense of control. Just remember to relax and let go sometimes, to enjoy all that you have cultivated in life.

Aquarius. Mentally active, always learning, never content to get stale in any way, shape, or form. A bit eclectic and bohemian in lifestyle, you create your own path in life and can usually shrug off criticism from those who want to give you a hard time about it. This is because deep down, you know what you're doing is right for you. Part of you can be very aloof, even in relationships. There's always a part of you that you keep just for yourself, and although you think a lot about things, you don't always have the easiest time saying what you feel.

Pisces. You flow through life, transitioning from here to there (physically, mentally....) almost seamlessly. Tend to have a kind of funky, fun, crazy side to you, and you can be pretty selective about who gets to see it! (Or, depending on your chart, you could be less shy and way more open with your awesomeness). Others may not know what to think of you at first, but it's probably just because you're off in your own little world. Definitely an interesting lunar placement, you can have a hard time making decisions, but the less you think about it, the better, because you'll only make yourself more confused. Inner peace is important for you, but also easily attainable if you listen to your intuition.

new brunswick!

So this was an intense one! I'll try to make it a little lighter next time. Any questions or clarifying wanted, let me know.

Sun Sign Basics.

The sun sign is what western astrology is based on. It's the sign you reply with when someone asks you what your sign is. It's where the earth is, in relation to the sun, the day you were born. Every birthday marks your solar return. That's where the expression, "and many happy returns!" comes from.

I'm thinking I'll list the signs, ruling planet(s), and anything off the top of my head I can think of.

Aries: Ruled by Mars, the red planet. This energy is independent, assertive, with a strong sense of self. Not afraid of, may even willingly hunt for and take on, challenges.

Taurus: Ruled by Venus. Taurus is characterized by love and beauty in nature, environment, in general. The definition of such, will of course vary. Security. Finances. Steadfastness. (Some may say stubborn... what?)

Gemini: Ruled by Mercury. Intelligent, a bit erratic, unique. That brain is always thinking, always going, sometimes multiple trains of thought at once!

Cancer: Ruled by the moon. The moon waxes and wanes, and especially influences the emotional states of those with Cancer prominent in their charts.

Leo: Ruled by the sun. This energy is obviously warm and expansive, but wants/needs attention and recognition for all that they do. Also generally affectionate and generous.

Virgo: Ruled by Mercury, as well as Gemini. The energy is expressed differently in Virgo, though. Virgo is characterized by a strong work ethic and "purity of purpose" in their ideals (some may say "perfectionist"). Also loyal and truthful.

Libra: Ruled by Venus. This sign is all about relating, to themselves and to others. It also rules beauty and is intellectual in approach and nature. Balance is especially important for Libra types.

Scorpio: Ruled by Pluto, but before Pluto was discovered it was ruled by Mars. Scorpio's energy is deep and intense, and this power can be used for good or otherwise. They have potential to be great healers.

Sagittarius: Ruled by Jupiter. Expansion in all areas of life is a focus for Sadges. Travel, philosophy, education (formal or not), spirituality, art, and the like- these are all very important to this sign.

Capricorn: Ruled by Saturn. Very capable energy- they can do anything. May at times feel fearful of expanding, but this is the lower vibration. The sea-goat wants to keep ascending, and again- are EXTREMELY capable of doing so.

Aquarius: Ruled by Uranus, and was ruled by Saturn before Uranus was discovered. Aquarians are VERY independent, but in a different way than Aries. Aquarians just have to be, whoever they are. Period. To others this may seem rebellious, erratic, or weird, but Aquarians know that what others think doesn't really matter. ;)

Pisces: Ruled by Neptune, and was ruled by Jupiter before Neptune was discovered. Pisces energy is subtle but deep. Their lives may be lead more by intuition than they realize. Art, spirituality, and that which is unconscious, like dreams, interest them. Prone to confusion and escapism, however!

So there's my round up. What do you think?

From adventures in Eastport, Maine.

30 July 2012

not a morning person

preferably, i would sleep through the bulk of it every day, but obviously that is not an option. i like mornings in theory- the stillness, the quiet, the changing sky, the gradual opening of the day. drinking coffee and looking out the window or on the porch, all whimsical-like. obviously, that is not how i get down with mornings, but maybe one day i'll get there. what amazes me is people who get up early and exercise. (*note to self: getting up early to exercise would be amazing.)

but, that is not me. instead i feel fully awake after 8pm, and always want to start various projects around the house at like, 11. then i feel sleepy and pass out. i guess what i'm trying to say is, i really love sleeping and would do it most of the 24 hours of the day if it were culturally acceptable.

so i really haven't written anything on this for like almost two weeks, or something? i've had terrible writer's block (what else is new), and had started a couple posts but i hated them and they felt so contrived and i got frustrated and gave up.

also i hadn't gone to my meditation group in two-three weeks, and i realize how out of touch i get with spirituality in any sense when i don't have at least that weekly meditation! i like it because it is so tangible- you actually work with your energy centers, aka chakras, clearing them and such. it feels sooo good to do, i don't know why i slack and don't do it every day.

but anyway, when i don't do that, it seems as though everything else creatively, or spiritually, or whatever, that i try to do, doesn't flow as well. oh, that kundalini energy.
(if you're interested, it is sahaja meditation that i practice- it's always free, i know there are various groups just around my small portland, maine, so they must be in other pockets of the world too :) )

i do know that i need some sort of positive change in my life, and that just sounds so vague! i mean, i know that like the first rule of making a change is knowing at least in what area of your life you want that change. from an astrological standpoint, i have transiting saturn in my first house, and it is slooowing me down and making me feel sooo stuck! oh and mars is there now, perhaps that's where the urgency is coming from? like, i just want to move (says mars) but haven't figured out any of the specifics (saturn says be careful).

oh and i just realized that the moon is in capricorn, which conjuncts transiting pluto in the early degrees. i learned, last month, i think? that this transit makes me feel crazy! plus it happens right on my natal neptune, which just... adds to it. to my delusions of grandeur. heh. (plus this all happens at the bottom of my chart, the IC, so it's just on that deep level that's hard to shake. so thankful that moon transits are short!)

welp, there it is. i posted something. i should go outside now.

*note to self: talk about the angles of the chart next time. :)

favorite parts of the day.

08 July 2012

early bird

it's what i am today. also yesterday- woke up hours before my boys, they are still sleeping as i write this. however, the fact that i decided to do something productive with this rare time most likely means that someone will come out into my writing space any time now...

it's a gorgeous morning. my desk faces a window, and out it i can see the pale moon in the blue sky, see a green, green field and trees, and hear some birds and other critters running around. oh, and my coffee just finished being made, so.

what's up today? moon in pisces, 17* now, so a little more than halfway through. this makes a nice trine to the sun as i type this. the sun is our true self, the moon our hidden, emotional self, so when they trine- either by transit, or if you have this aspect in your chart- it's harmonious. your wants and needs match up, you feel comfortable with yourself and have a strong sense of self. and right now, i feel oddly calm and awake for 8:23am on a sunday.

i've been thinking about shadow sides (polarities, aka opposite signs) somewhat lately, and how i am affected by mine. i'm a pisces and so my polarity is virgo- i talked about this once here. it's funny because for so long i wasn't aware of the virgo side of me at all. i just couldn't relate because it wasn't there, or so i thought. then, when mars the past 6 months has been in and out of my 12th house, which is ruled by virgo, i started... seeing it. i couldn't not see it. something that had been hidden (12th house rules this), had been revealed. and now it's there, and i'm working with it. trying to. never realized how controlling i could be, how detail-oriented, scrutinizing, fault-finding, obsessive, and such a perfectionist i could be (the detrimental kind, where you feel defeated all the time).

(and yes, these are all lower qualities of virgo itself. the higher qualities of virgo are amazing- selfless service, nurturing others, spiritual, focus on health, manifesting their visions for themselves and the world. and i feel like virgo is also a transformational sign. they can go through hell and come back with the same positive outlook, just wiser. oh, and they're also known for having an insane work ethic. i love virgos!)

so i'm trying to transform some of these lower qualities into higher ones, and it is a bitch. but i'm thankful to see it. thankful to see the start of the roots. i realize that anxiety fuels much of this. the other night while laying down in bed but before sleep i cleared my chakras, which helped, but i could still feel anxiety in there. so i started taking deep breaths, and i pinpointed it. the very front of my stomach felt this very tangible anxiety. so i breathed very deeply into that space, visualizing the breaths dissolving it. then i did a short visualization of pulling the cord of anxiety out from that place (my virgo sister-in-law just took a class where she learned, among other things, how to cut cords and she taught me how to do it). right after i did it, i got a sudden jolt in my right forearm. like, it actually hurt a bit, but was very quickly gone. and it helped. meditation is healing, and i know how much i benefit from it, but i still don't do it every day.

anyway- that was a tangent. i was going to say, i have to keep reminding myself to step back a bit, relax, not get riled up. because it is futile. and so, writing more. photography more. attempting to create/find a meaningful job.

i think next time i will write a little bit about chakras. also, i have a post that i'm working on that isn't coming to fruition as quickly as i thought it would that's about a card reading i did. en route.

i think that's all for now. enjoy this day, wherever you are.

10th house and career

Lately the subject of career has been coming up, and I've been thinking about mine, too! So I figured I'd write about what different planets in your 10th house- which rules career and your public persona- might look like. Let me know if it's accurate, I'm new at this! ;)

This is how I find a chart and transits (it's under 'free horoscopes,' then 'extended chart selection,' then 'natal chart and transits' in the drop down menu... or you can ask me to find it for you, I don't mind ;) ). Around the outside of the charts, the symbols for the planets are in green... that's where the current planets fall in your chart! Like this... so, this made up person has the moon transiting their 10th house.

(note- if you sign up at astro, you can save chart info so you don't have to enter it every time)

The sun here is going to illuminate the subject of career in your life- will bring to light what's working, and also what isn't, and you may be able to glean some important information. You'll probably want your efforts to be recognized and appreciated, perhaps through a raise, some other sort of perk, or maybe leaving a place that takes you for granted for a better fit. Just keep your ego in check!

The moon rules emotions and nurturing, among other things, so every approximately 28 days for about 2 1/2 days (the moon's cycle and time in each sign, respectively), you need to take some you time and decompress. Care for yourself as much as you care for others in whatever your work is- and that could be anything, not necessarily a job you get paid for. After all, you can't do well at your profession if you don't have yourself together, so do what you need to do to really relax. :)

Mercury is all about communication, words, and work, but the word work could mean different things for different people. ;) I see this as either helping communication or revealing professional relationships that are weak in this area. Either way, this is a good time to get info on careers you are interested in and explore your options. Mercury loves to multi-task!

Venus rules beauty and the arts, I see this as a time when you can improve your current career space (and yes, this could be by quitting and starting a new path) so it better suits you and your needs, and/or make time to do the things you love- maybe to make it your life's work, maybe just to feel more balance in your life because you've been working too much lately and need to reconnect with the rest that life has to offer. :)

I think of Mars as bringing a boost of energy to whatever house he is visiting in your chart! So think of this as the time to really get shit done to reach your goals, short and/or long-term. It's just that- an energy boost. Savor it, but remember to still take care of yourself, and get enough sleep so you don't burn out.

I view Jupiter as expanding this area of life- bringing new opportunities, or showing advancement of some sort in whatever it is that's your career/what you're trying to make your career. Depending on the sign these opportunities may be hidden, but they are there! :)

Saturn is going to bring the principles of hard work and discipline into your career path. You may have a vision, and have the necessary training and are just trying to earn money/get ahead in your line of work. The time you bring in will also bring you reward, especially if you're not just phoning in your efforts.

Uranus brings a shakeup of some sort. Maybe an opportunity out of nowhere, or a shake up at your current employment. Maybe you'll suddenly just go in a new direction altogether, and forge your own way. A good time to show and live independence, especially in the area of career! I'm thinking that this is something that others will really take notice of, as well.

Neptune is going to help your dream job vision, if you let yourself go there! ;) I'm seeing this as a great time to pursue your interests and make time to do the things you truly enjoy, in whatever propensity is doable. Just revisiting, or doing more of, these things, you will bring inspiration!

Pluto may bring a shake up, but a different kind than Uranus. I see this as a time where you may have to regroup and strategy. What are your values? And not just in the career world, but in real life. Is whatever you're doing living up to those values? What can you do to change that? Look inside yourself and learn.

If you don't have a planet in your 10th house right now, worry not! Something will be there soon, and besides, other areas of your life may be taking front stage right now. You can always look at the sign that starts the 10th house (and the corresponding planet- for example, in the chart, Sag is the beginning of the 10th house, and it's ruled by Jupiter), and see how your attitude in work may be in general. :)

happy solstice (one day late)

sun, moon, and mercury all in cancer this morning... happy summer :) since mercury has been in cancer i've had a renewed interest in my oracle cards, i think because they help me put meaning and words to feelings, something which can escape me. they're so handy for helping me to evaluate current states of mind/feeling, suggestions on problems i face. If you're interested, this is what they look like...

My sister in law has Angel oracle cards, which we played with while she was visiting this week, also very insightful, but with different imagery. So it gets at different facets. I'd actually like to invest in some Angel cards sometime soon, get more familiar with them. :) I've always been interested in Tarot, too, but I feel intimidated by it as well... I've had it done for me less than a handful of times and liked it, but I'm just not there yet for using it myself. Maybe someday! I think this Mercury in Cancer, all this water in general right now is activating mine- (sun, mercury, pluto)- but also my moon, since cancer rules the moon. And my moon is in Taurus, which is a fixed sign and can be stubborn but more accurate a description I think, is that Taurus needs to be able to move at it's own pace, live life it's own way, what feels right, etc. The moon and mercury will be sextiling (like a soft trine) my Taurus moon later today, and in a few days, respectively, but they are in the ballpark now so I'm hoping for some... clarity? Don't know if that's the right word... I think this transit is helping all of us feel more in touch with our own moons, which is the hidden side of us, the part that's so strong and yet subtle that we don't even recognize it sometimes.

Also, all of this Cancer is in my 10th house, associated with career, professional image, etc. Capricorn is the 10th sign of the zodiac. My chart has everything in the sign of it's opposite, since I have Libra rising, which is the start of the second half of the zodiac. Anyway, I'm hoping for a boost of sorts- but just writing this feels good. We will see what comes of it.

Speaking of writing, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my blog(s) situation- just post everything to here (even though it's not always astro-related), or put non-astro posts on here to keep it separate? Ehh.. I just don't know. I don't think many people read this currently, but if you have any insight please do share...

traveling moon

the moon's in Aries today, so although it's not the beginning of this month's moon cycle (which is the new moon), it is the beginning of the zodiac, so I suppose it's as good a time as any to start tracking it. again. I started last month but only got five or six days in. All you do is look at the moon every day and see how it aspects your chart. That's it. This helps you to understand how different signs, transits, affect you. Since the moon is the fastest moving "planet" in our solar system (goes through all the signs of the zodiac in 28 days), it's the easiest to see the effects.

I usually end up noting some other aspects in the sky or in my chart, just because. A couple terms I'll use are transiting, which just refers to the current sky- where all the planets are right now, like what you see to the right of this post. The other is natal, which refers to my particular chart.

Anyway- right now, the moon's at 7* Aries. This almost exactly conjuncts my Venus in Aries, and roughly my sun and mercury (they're both in Pisces, but within 10*).

The moon is going to exactly conjunct Uranus soon, which is at 8* Aries. Uranus is known for being erratic, distant, independent... and in Aries, all that energy is on fire. As the moon gets nearer to that degree, it gets more intense. If you're moon-ruled, I'm guessing you'll be feeling this. Even if you're not. Not necessarily bad, but I could see hastiness being a side effect of this, (be safe driving/walking/getting around), with decisions, or whatever. It could also be a really great day to start something new, if this energy is feeding you. Doesn't get much more cardinal than Aries- I'm seeing today as a go day for the next step you want to take in whatever area of life.

What else... Transiting Venus is in Gemini, but retrograde. Venus rules relationships, love, relationships, pretty things... And retrogrades are all for reexamining our relationships, maybe you're revisiting an old issue within one, maybe you're taking some time apart, maybe you've run into someone from the past... Maybe you're trying to figure out how you want to live. This is all happening for me in my 9th house, which is focused on travel, higher learning, spirituality. And I did do some extensive traveling a couple weeks ago. :) And I just want to do more... insatiable. I've also noticed how I've been slacking on things I love doing... creative things... photography, writing, other stuff. Blogging. So I'm trying to do more stuff. :P

Okay, so I didn't really write too much about how the moon's affecting my chart. I'm feeling really tired out think I need to make some coffee and have a snack... Did a LOT of running around all day. Now I'm sitting in my recliner writing this and I kind of feel like I'm floating... taking it as a sign to do something else. ;) I'm not sure how clear all this is, so any questions/comments, let me know.. :)

musings inspired

*My dudes watching last weekend's Scorpio full moon... yay for warm nights!

*I'm cross-posting from everyday adventures (my totally unfocused, whatever blog), but will add a little extra here as well!

*To better understand astrology and myself... I have began keeping a celestial journal, of sorts. (I ordered one on Amazon, and I was so happy to get it in the mail today... but I ordered the 2011 edition instead of the 2012! d'oh... but in my defense, why were they even selling 2011 anymore?!) So, I will return that one, and will get a 2012 one, but until then just have my own.

*I am focusing on the transits of the moon. I was reading on skywriter (amazing site, btw) that, because the moon runs through all the signs so quickly, you can observe how you feel when certain aspects are made with your personal planets. Get an idea of how you're affected. Like, when I felt insane the other night? Oh look, Scorpio moon directly opposing my natal moon in Taurus, in the 8th house. And it passed quickly, like the moon through degrees, but when it was exact, it was intense. Feeling inadequate, lost, unloved. I found this out after the fact, by the way. There's a quote about this, about not being controlled by the stars, but rather being freed by them... Astrology helps me like that. Helps me to understand certain influences, and that even when I'm having a crazy Caroline moment, that it's temporary, and I can choose how to behave... or something.

*Anyway, today my 3rd and 6th houses are really being activated by the moon. Communications, work, writing. I've been studying for about an hour, got my journal all organized, cleaned around the house, story time with the babe, who is now napping. Talked to and firmed up plans with an old friend I haven't seen in... years! :) Moon on my Mars today, in the 3rd=action from communication, with an old friend=very Sagittarian. :)

*And yesterday, it was funny, day two of this journal and early in the day the transiting (current) moon was conjunct (right on) my Saturn, in the second house. Now, one of the themes of the moon is home. Saturn is all about duty, work, achievements. Well, I woke up, had some coffee, made my kid breakfast, and did a MAJOR house(apartment)clean. Stuff had gotten really messy. Then later on in the day when I did my journaling, I find that, oh, well that makes sense, as together, Saturn and the moon, that I want to work on my home. Just funny things like that. :)

*If you want to get an idea on your transits, it's quite easy to find. I use a combo of sources... here on astro, next to "Please select the type of chart you want," select "Natal charts and transits." It puts all the transiting planets on the outside of your chart. Also, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can get Astrolabe's app Celeste, which after you put in your chart you can select "weather" and it tells you aspects that the transiting planets are making to your natal ones. (aka the ones in your own chart.) If you're interested in doing this but are having trouble, let me know! I'd be happy to help... I'm also happy to do short readings, for now, for free, as I am still learning, and you would totally be a guinea pig. :)

*That's all for now... maybe more later.

Digging Deeper... Moon Signs

Wow. So I totally started this post on September 12th and am just now getting around to finishing it... hopefully. I've been feeling pretty worn out lately due to a certain 9 1/2 month old who shall remain nameles, and I feel like what I wrap up may sound like a bit of a ramble. But, carry on...

So we've talked about Sun signs and the elements. This week=Moon signs.

Your moon signs is determined by, you guessed it, the sign the moon was in at your time of birth.

"But how do I find out my moon sign?" You may be thinking to yourself. Easy- as I've been plugging since the beginning, simply hook up a free chart- either here or here  will do the trick. Just plug in all the info you have- if you're not sure of the time of your birth, you can skip it, and your moon sign will have like a 75% chance of being correct. If your moon is in an early (0-5 degrees) or late (25-30 degrees) stage, you may want to go on a mission to find your time of birth for the ultimate accuracy, as things can change a lot from one sign to the next. If you experience any difficulties at all with this, seriously, just let me know and I will be happy to help. You can leave a comment or facebook/email me or whatever.

So this was an intense one! I'll try to make it a little lighter next time. Any questions or clarifying wanted, let me know. Good day!
